Where Every Visit ensures a Tail-Wagging, Purr-fect Day
To provide the best care for the welfare and safety of the animals I care for, to provide a
stress-free environment, and to give pet owners peace of mind that their animals are loved.
There’s No Place Like Home was founded with the idea that pets deserve to be treated with love and respect.
There’s No Place Like Home understands the importance of exercise and playtime for dogs.
That's why dog walking and playtime services are essential in keeping your furry friend happy and healthy.
My name is Barbara, owner. I have had a life-long passion for animals for as long as I can remember, definitely going back to my childhood. I always had pets growing up which included dogs, cats, fish, and turtles. When I was in my teens, I spent many hours volunteering at our local SPCA providing many services which included dog walking, cat cuddling, kennel cleaning, laundry, and of course, giving love and attention which was the easiest of all. My passion continued into my adult years as I have never been without a furry friend. This passion was carried over to my children who both currently have their own pet sitting businesses. My husband and I retired to Florida from Maryland 11 years ago. I had an active pet sitting business in Maryland. I had every intention of starting my business back up after we got settled here but some medical issues came up which forced me to put my passion on hold. I am now a grateful breast cancer survivor and am now ready to put my all into my business. There are no words to describe my passion for animals. When I was in Maryland, I wanted Pygmy goats until I realized I had to keep them outside. I have an impressive background including volunteering at the SPCA. I currently volunteer at a local pet rescue, and I am proud to say that I have helped place over 200 rescues. My husband and I reside in Port Charlotte. We have 2 rescue dogs and 2 rescue cats named Rikki, Ringo, Felix, and Spooky, and I have a lot more love to give. My inspiration to start “THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME” came from the love and passion I have for animals. Giving your furry loved ones all the comforts of home is of the utmost importance to me, and of course, giving the pet owners comfort as well. It can be very stressful boarding our animals which makes it very difficult for pet owners to have peace of mind when they’re not home. “THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME” can provide a personalized home environment taking away the anxiety from the pet owner as well as having our loved ones get the love and attention they deserve. I look forward to hearing from you to discuss your and your pets’ needs.
Hope this message finds you well. My name is Barbara and I’m reaching out with a genuine enthusiasm for providing top-notch pet sitting services. With a genuine passion for animals, I understand the importance of ensuring your pet’s comfort and well-being in your absence. I offer a range of services and am flexible in tailoring my care to meet your pet’s unique needs. Whether it’s daily check-ins, walks, feeding, playtime, etc., I am committed to providing personalized attention to create a stress-free experience for both you and your furry friend. Please feel free to reach out at 410-382-9443 or barblovespets@aol.com (email), and we can arrange a convenient time for a call or meeting. Thank you for considering my pet sitting services. The owner, Barbara Brand, is excellent. She has been pet sitting for many years and treats all client pets as her own. She goes above and beyond and our animals adore her. She sends pictures and videos to you and takes time to play and pet, snuggle, even brushes your fur babies. Barbara has a heart of gold; hire her. You won't be disappointed!

Barbara provided excellent care for my cats and turtle on several trips we had out of town. We really appreciated the great communication from Barbara. She is very responsive to our inquiries and great at coming early to do the visits. We felt really fortunate that we could depend on her. It really made our trip so much more enjoyable, knowing that our pets had good care. She would even send regular updates with photos and videos and that was such a treat to receive. I really felt like our pets had excellent care. I would definitely recommend her to any of my neighbors, friends or family.

We had Barbara take care of our pet on different occasions and are beyond pleased with her services. The care Barbara gives our pet is great and our lab, Willy, loves her. She sends videos of their walks and Willy eating so we know he is well taken care of. And it is a plus because Willy doesn't have to stay in a dog boarding place and enjoys the comfort of his own home. We highly recommend Barbara to take care of your pet, and she will treat them with all the love and care they deserve.

Barbara was amazing! A family member of mine was supposed to take care of my pup, Luna, but they ended up cancelling a day before our trip. We were panicking because we did not want to leave Luna with just anyone. I found Barbara's website and decided to reach out. Best decision ever. Barbara sent me daily pictures of Luna and would send me messages about how she was doing. I would 100% recommend "There's No Place Like Home" pet sitting to anyone that needs a great, loving person that will truly love your dog as their own during their stay.

I am absolutely happy with your services. My mind was at ease while out of town. It's clear that you cared for Lilly as if she was your own. Yes, I'm sure Lilly got the absolute best care while we were gone. I know she was loved and taken care of. That's evident from the photos and videos. There's nothing I wish was done differently or better. I will definitely be referring you to friends and neighbors. You will be our go-to when we go out of town. I'm glad we found you.

I have 3 Samoyeds that are very different ages and stages: one is a puppy exploring the world with her mouth, generally to her detriment; her great-grandfather only has a few more months to live and he really cannot be eating sand and seashells by the fence posts; and the middle one, age 10 is addicted to eating mulch. So, I just can't leave these 3 with a 20-year-old. I need a mature person who can pay attention and fix 3 different diets, and for me, that's been Barbara. So, I'm very happy to have her and thankful she lives close by.

We hired Barbara Brand several months ago to feed and walk our Chocolate Lab 2 x's a day for 7 days while we took a vacation. I can't begin to explain how well she took care of our dog. Barbara took care of him like he was her own dog. She went above and beyond all our expectations. She texted us messages, pictures and videos daily, fed him well and gave him treats and tons of love and attention. She let him swim in our pool (with our permission), dried him off, took in our mail. Above all, she was trustworthy & highly professional. We can't wait to hire her again next time we go on vacation.

We were absolutely thrilled with how Lainey was so comfortable in your home. All the videos and messages letting us see her being happy. She looked like she was on vacation instead of us!! You're the absolute best. You were an angel sent at the last moment, and I am so grateful to you and Steve and your boys.

Barbara Brand is amazing. She walks and attends to my dogs 3 times a week while I work as a RN, 12 hour shifts, at SMH in Sarasota. She also takes care of my 2 boy shitzus when I go visit my family in Upstate NY. I am blessed and lucky to have found her and she lives a few streets from me making it convenient. If you are thinking of getting your dog the best care in Charlotte/Sarasota County and Westport neighborhoods, give Barb a call. She takes care of your fur-babies just as if they were her own. Thanks Barb. Me and the boys Love you very much!!!

Barbara is an amazing dog sitter. We were away for a week, and she took care of our chocolate lab, Willy. Each day Barbara sent videos of Willy walking and swimming in our pool. And Barbara was kind enough to take in our mail. Willy's tail never stopped wagging and Barbara greeted him with a smiling face and happy voice. We liked that she kept us informed through videos of how Willy was doing and also liked that she treated Willy like he was her own pet. We truly and highly recommend Barbara as a pet sitter and will definitely be using her services in the future. Many thanks to Barbara for all you have done to make Willy a happy boy. And Willy thanks you as well and misses you. Love Mark and Donna and Willy (woof).

They are all so good with you and they all love hanging with you, Barbara. Thank you so much for caring for our babies when we can't be there to do it ourselves. Thank you for making this trip easier, and being there, and all your updates. It's been brightening our days when we sit down and get to watch them after a long tough day.

Barbara exceeded all of our expectations when my wife and I were looking for someone to take care of our three high-maintenance fur babies. Our dogs don't do the best in social situations with other dogs, so when we were looking for a pet sitter, we were hoping to find someone that would come to our home and keep the pups as comfortable as possible. Barbara was the one! Our experience with her was amazing from the very moment she walked through the door. She met with the dogs twice before taking over for 5 days, which was super important to us since our dogs can sometimes be a little wary of strangers. As pet parents, we really appreciated her attention to detail and willingness to come by as often as we (and the dogs) needed. We loved getting updates, videos, and photos of them while we were away on our trip. Knowing Barbara was treating our pets like her own really gave us peace of mind and made it easy to relax on our vacation. We knew from the very first video update that our whole family would be more than comfortable using her from now on. Gone are the days where we have to put our babies in small kennels with strange dogs and worry about their safety/happiness. Barbara is someone we would immediately recommend to all of our pet friends and family. She's now part of OUR family.

We were very happy that Daisy was comfortable in your home. I loved that you sent me pictures and videos of her resting and at play. I was worried about leaving her since this was the first time. Wanting the best for my pets I was so fortunate to find Barbara at THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME. Barbara showed me so much compassion for animals when I first met her and provided that same compassion and caring attitude when I entrusted her with looking after my pets when I was away from home. Barbara gave me the peace of mind I needed and provided the superb care and attention I was looking for when I decided to use her as my pet sitter and will definitely be using her in the future whether I need her for a day or for a long-term occasion and highly recommend her to anyone who needs that same peace of mind when looking for a competent and caring pet sitter.

I highly recommend Barbara Brand for pet-sitting services. She has cat-sit for our two fur babies before and she gave them the utmost care while we were away. She also sent us photos and videos of them playing during her visits which we greatly appreciated. Our cats are normally slow to warm up to strangers, but our kitties took to her exceptionally fast. Overall, I felt that our kitties were in safe hands and that put us at ease while we enjoyed our vacation. If you would like a reliable and friendly pet-sitter, then look no further! Barbara is the best person for the job.

I am happy to recommend Barbara Brand’s Pet Sitting Services (There’s No Place Like Home). I have had the pleasure and the luck of having Barbara visit our dogs, Buster and Opie, and bearded dragon, Adele, for many years. I have used her services for dog walking, short stays, and overnights. My dogs love seeing her, and she has always gone above and beyond when taking care of our pets and our home while we've been away. During our travels, Barbara checked in with occasional update text messages and pictures. They all looked happy as could be.
I cannot recommend Barbara enough and would be happy to be contacted as a reference. She is a person who one can rely on to be responsible, consistent, dependable, and most of all loving and kind to every person and pet in her path.

When Barbara lived in Maryland, she often took care of my boy Hendrix! She always did a fantastic job taking care of him! From the moment you meet her, you will immediately be able to tell how passionate about animals she is. She also frequently sent me really cute pics of him while away and I was really appreciative to be able to see on a regular basis how happy and well he was doing!! 5 star recommendation!!!!!
* Rates are subject to change based on clients' individual circumstances
Just like bringing home a new baby, introducing a new pet into a household requires some planning and preparation. Follow the items on this checklist to help ease the transition for you and your precious new arrival.
1. Schedule an appointment with your veterinarian.
Making sure your pet is healthy should be your first priority. On his/her first visit, your veterinarian should identify any pre-existing conditions your animal may have, vaccinate against illness or disease and insert a microchip. It's also the time to learn when your pet can be spayed or neutered.
2. Choose a crate or carrier
How will you transport the puppy or kitten home? If you're adopting from a shelter, they may provide a box with a top that can be closed. Otherwise, use a carrier to contain the pet and line it with a towel or soft bedding.
3. Purchase a collar and leash
A cat or dog wearing a collar conveys that they belong to someone. And if you plan on taking your pet outside, a leash is essential with a collar tag so that you have extra protection if your new pet strays.
4. Stock food and treat
Your growing pet will be hungry and good nutrition puts him or her on a healthy track. Ask your veterinarian for product recommendations. Head off behavior problems before they begin by never feeding your pet from the table where you and your family eat.
5. Select water and food bowls
Find a spot in your home where you can set out two bowls where your puppy or kitten can eat and drink undisturbed. Repurpose bowls from your own collection or get new ones; do make sure the lips are not too tall for a young one to reach or it might tip over.
6. Acquire house training materials
Your kitten will need a litter box filled with fresh litter and placed in an area where she can use it undisturbed. Start crate training your puppy with frequent trips outdoors to allow him to relief himself. Those who adopt very young puppies may want to start them off using 'wee-wee pads'.
7. Pick up specialized cleaning supplies
Accidents happen. So have a good supply of paper towels and and enzymatic cleaner on hand to
wipe them up. Never punish a puppy or kitten for messing up. They're still learning and want your praise when they do the right thing.
8. Assemble bedding
Having their own cozy bed helps a puppy or kitten feel more secure in a new home. A pet bed placed away from drafts will make your new pet warm and welcome.
9. Pick up toys to entertain
What youngster doesn't love toys? Playing with Kongs or hard rubber toys, hard nylon or thick rope toys or treat toys. For kittens, try small plush toys, small cottony or crinkly balls or even a shoebox to jump in.
10. Set up a gate or barrier
If there is any area in your home that you want to make off limits, you'll need to block your new pet from entering. But don't leave him there alone all day; he needs time to socialize and collect cuddles and kisses.
Meet and greets are highly recommended with children and current pets prior to adopting or fostering.
Rescues should be spayed/neutered prior to adopting, vetted, and current on vaccines.
Please note that rescues are only funded by donations.

Holiday Safety Tips
The holiday season is upon us, and many pet parents plan to include their furry companions in the festivities. As you gear up for the holidays, it is important to try to keep your pet's eating and exercise habits as close to their normal routine as possible. Also, please be sure to steer pets clear of the following unhealthy treats, toxic plants and dangerous decorations. Be Careful with Seasonal Plants and Decorations.
· Oh, Christmas Tree:
Securely anchor your Christmas tree so it doesn't tip and fall, causing possible injury to your pet. This will also prevent the tree water which may contain fertilizers that can cause stomach upset from spilling. Stagnant tree water is a breeding ground for bacteria, and your pet could end up with nausea or diarrhea should he imbibe.
· Avoid Mistletoe & Holly:
Holly, when ingested, can cause pets to suffer nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Mistletoe can cause gastrointestinal upset and cardiovascular problems. And many varieties of lilies can cause kidney failure in cats if ingested. Opt for just-as-jolly artificial plants made from silk or plastic, or choose a pet-safe bouquet.
· Tinsel-less Town:
Kitties love this sparkly, light-catching "toy" that's easy to bat around and carry in their mouths. But a nibble can lead to a swallow, which can lead to an obstructed digestive tract, severe vomiting, dehydration and possible surgery. It's best to brighten your boughs with something other than tinsel.
· That Holiday Glow:
Don't leave lighted candles unattended. Pets may burn themselves or cause a fire if they knock candles over. Be sure to use appropriate candle holders, placed on a stable surface. And if you leave the room, put the candle out!
· Wired Up:
Keep wires, batteries and glass or plastic ornaments out of paws' reach. A wire can deliver a potentially lethal electrical shock and a punctured battery can cause burns to the mouth and esophagus, while shards of breakable ornaments can damage your pet's mouth and digestive tract.
Avoid Holiday Food Dangers
· Skip the Sweets:
By now you know not to feed your pets chocolate and anything sweetened with xylitol, but do you know the lengths to which an enterprising pet will go to chomp on something yummy? Make sure to keep your pets away from the table and unattended plates of food, and be sure to secure the lids on garbage cans.
· Leave the Leftovers:
Fatty, spicy and no-no human foods, as well as bones, should not be fed to your furry friends. Pets can join the festivities in other fun ways that won't lead to costly medical bills.
· Careful with Cocktails:
If your celebration includes adult holiday beverages, be sure to place your unattended alcoholic drinks where pets cannot get to them. If ingested, your pet could become weak, ill and may even go into a coma, possibly resulting in death from respiratory failure.
· Selecting Special Treats:
Looking to stuff your pet's stockings? Stick with chew toys that are basically indestructible, Kongs that can be stuffed with healthy foods or chew treats that are designed to be safely digestible. Long, stringy things are a feline's dream, but the riskier toys for cats involve ribbon, yarn and loose little parts that can get stuck in the intestines, often necessitating surgery. Surprise kitty with a new ball that's too big to swallow, a stuffed catnip toy or the interactive cat dancer.
Plan a Pet-Safe Holiday Gathering
· House Rules:
If your animal-loving guests would like to give your pets a little extra attention and exercise while you're busy tending to the party, ask them to feel free to start a nice play or petting session.
· Put the Meds Away:
Make sure all of your medications are locked behind secure doors, and be sure to tell your guests to keep their meds zipped up and packed away, too.
· A Room of Their Own:
Give your pet his own quiet space to retreat to—complete with fresh water and a place to snuggle. Shy pups and cats might want to hide out under a piece of furniture, in their carrying case or in a separate room away from the hubbub.
· New Year's Noise:
As you count down to the new year, please keep in mind that strings of thrown confetti can get lodged in a cat's intestines, if ingested, perhaps necessitating surgery. Noisy poppers can terrify pets and cause possible damage to sensitive ears. And remember that many pets are also scared of fireworks, so be sure to secure them in a safe, escape-proof area as midnight approaches.
Which holiday plants are toxic to pets?
Many types of plants can be toxic to dogs and cats. Around the holidays, the following six are among the most common dangers to pets. But keep in mind this list isn’t exhaustive.
1. Holly
The leaves of the holly plant can lead to pet injury due to their spiny leaves. But the berries are toxic to both cats and dogs and lead to vomiting or diarrhea.
Holly berries also tend to fall off of the plant over time. This makes them much more accessible to your four-legged friends. Eating holly can be painful in many ways for your pet, so consider skipping this holiday plant altogether.
2. Mistletoe
Too much mistletoe can cause severe reactions in dogs and cats. This can mean seizures, low heart rate, and even death. While severe mistletoe toxicity is rare, it can happen if your pet consumes large amounts.
American mistletoe is actually less toxic than mistletoe in Europe. Consuming the berries of American mistletoe can lead to mild digestive distress. Regardless of the type of mistletoe you have, be cautious with it around pets.
3. Poinsettias
These crimson red plants are only mildly toxic to cats and dogs. However, the milky white sap inside the plant will cause irritation in your pet’s mouth, stomach, and skin. This can cause rashes, excessive drooling, and vomiting. Luckily, the symptoms are normally mild enough that medical intervention is rarely needed.
4. Azaleas
Even just a few azalea leaves can be fatal to both dogs and cats. The toxins in this plant can cause direct damage to their skeletal and heart muscles, which can lead to symptoms like weakness and tremors. Azalea poisoning can also damage their central nervous system.
If treated in time, you can possibly help your pet recover. But this plant should be kept far away from your furry friends.
5. Lilies
Lilies only give your dog a mild tummy ache. But these iconic flowers are extremely dangerous to cats. Every single part of the lily is toxic to felines, from the stem to its pollen. In fact, even licking up a few drops of pollen can send a cat into kidney failure within 3 days. Cats will start showing symptoms within 12 hours of ingesting lilies. Early signs of toxicity include:
· Drooling
· Vomiting
· Decreased appetite
· Decreased activity level
The symptoms begin to escalate into kidney damage within 24 hours. This will possibly lead to excessive urination and greater dehydration. Because of the dehydration, you may notice your cat drinking an excessive amount of water.
It is vital to get your cat treated as soon as possible. This will improve your chances of preventing irreversible kidney damage. And after the first 18 hours of ingestion, the chances of your cat surviving lily poisoning are much lower.
6. Christmas trees
Christmas trees are only mildly toxic to cats and dogs. It causes digestive irritation if ingested by cats, because they are very sensitive to the oils found in the tree’s sap.
But don’t forget about the water your tree sits in. It often contains fertilizer or bacteria since it’s sitting water. If your pet drinks this water, they may experience stomach issues or diarrhea.
Still, there are some other precautions you should take to make sure your pet is safe around the tree. For example, anchor your tree down to prevent it from falling over and injuring your pet.
So, while you can still keep a tree in the home, be sure to take some extra time to really get it pet-proof!
Signs and symptoms of poisoning in cats and dogs
The symptoms of poisoning in your dog or cat can look different depending on the plant. But there are some common signs that you can keep an eye out for.
Most of these plants will create digestive distress in dogs and cats. This can look like the following:
· Diarrhea
· Vomiting
· Excessive drooling
· Lack of appetite
· Weakness or lethargy
Other symptoms can include:
· Confusion
· Racing heart rate
· Head shaking or lip licking
· Excessive thirst or urination
What to do if your pet ingests one of these toxic Christmas plants
When you suspect your pet ate a toxic plant, the sooner you act the better. There are a few options available if you suspect that your pet has eaten one of these toxic plants. Call your regular veterinarian first. They have a better understanding of your pet’s medical history. If your regular vet is not available, head to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital. You can also get immediate help from a pet poison hotline, which is available for a fee. The Pet Poison Hotline and ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) are two such examples. Both are open 24 hours a day and cost $75 for a consultation. You can reach the Pet Poison Hotline at 855-764-7661. The number to reach the APCC is 888-426-4435. Both hotlines have a team of credentialed veterinary professionals who can help you navigate what to do next. They will help you decide if you can watch your pet at home or should get immediate treatment. If they recommend you go to the vet, they will communicate with your pet’s regular vet to inform them of the situation.
DIY Paw Print Ornament
Your holiday tree is likely filled with ornaments and mementos that remind you of your loved ones. Create an easy tree tribute to your dog with a homemade paw print ornament. You can easily make an attractive ornament with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. Start by making a simple dough with salt, flour and water. Then cut out a circle and press your pet’s paw into the center of the soft dough to make an imprint. Use a pen to create a small hole at the top of the ornament (for hanging purposes). Bake at 200 degrees F for a few hours, let cool, and then decorate with colored paint and glitter if desired. You can add your pet’s name and the date to complete your pet’s memorable ornament. String some ribbon through the ornament and it is ready for the tree.
Stockings
Stockings hung on the fireplace or mantle are some of the most iconic and personal holiday decorations. While hanging up stockings for your family members, consider finding a stocking for your pet too. Many pet stores sell small, pet-themed stockings that would be perfect for your four-legged friend. If you enjoy crafting, you could even make your own by using sewing patterns in the shape of a bone, fish or other pet-related symbol. You can fill the stocking with healthy treats and biscuits for your pets (just make sure the stocking is out of reach from your pet until it is time to open gifts!).
Photoshoot with Santa
Taking a photo with Santa Claus is one of the most amusing ways to create a lasting holiday memory. Many communities offer opportunities to take pictures with Santa or other holiday-themed characters in the month of December. If allowed, bring your pet to the photoshoot fun. Not only are pictures of your pet with Santa just plain adorable, but they also serve as great mementos for Christmas cards, decorative displays and social media post.

Simply pour into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight. Avoid artificially flavored or sweetened brands, you can instead add in pureed fruit or crushed berries for extra flavor.
Frozen fruit and vegetables
Cut small pieces of fresh fruit like apples, bananas, peaches, watermelon, cantaloupe or strawberries and blueberries and freeze on wax paper or inside a plastic container. You can also use frozen vegetables like green beans or peas, carrots and broccoli. If using a frozen vegetable mix, avoid those that contain onions, which are toxic to dogs. Also adapt the size of the piece of fruit or veggie according to your dog’s size, in order to prevent the risk of choking.

PUMPKIN – A SUPERFOOD
The oils in pumpkin support urinary health in dogs with urinary incontinence. Pumpkin is also a great source of fiber and helps with digestion. A tablespoon of pumpkin added to a dog’s food will ease stomach issues, including constipation and diarrhea. Another benefit of pumpkin for dogs is weight management. Substituting canned pumpkin with a portion of the dog’s regular diet could trim them down. Also promotes a shiny coat. Like any food, you want to use pumpkin for dogs in moderation. It is always recommended you check with your veterinarian before you make any changes in their diet.
PEANUT BUTTER AND PUMPKIN DOG TREATS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl; stir with spatula until combined. Transfer mixture to a work surface and work it with your hands until mixture starts to come together. Add 1 tsp of water at a time (only if needed) to help make the dough workable, but don't add too much as it should be dry and stiff. Roll the dough toa thickness of 1/2 inch. Cut into 1/2-inch pieces and transfer to a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven until dog treats are golden brown and crunchy, about 40 minutes. Let cool before serving to your dog.
